Day 26, June 21, 2007

Apparently, we needed to mow.

Must... shoot... fast.

Day 24, June 19, 2007

You could almost consider him a legend out here. My grandfather would be 100 years old today. He passed away just over five years ago essentially of old age. The man survived polio in the early 20's and never saw WWII up front as a result. Instead, he taught school in Dyess, AR as a woodworking instructor.

One day, a little boy spent his Saturday morning cutting some wood. I've heard the story as saying that his woodworking teacher was in that room that early morning. The boy tripped and fell on top of the saw splitting him instantly. Jack died a short time later. His brother, Johnny Cash, another one of Waymon's students, never forgot.

Waymon was the child of William Henry Holloway, whose second cousin (I believe) was another woman (also) named Mary Holloway. Mary gave birth to a son not long after William's wife had my grandfather. This son of Mary was named Marlon Brando.

This is the dinner bell that was given to my great-great-grandmother as a gift twelve years before my grandfather was born. It sits on my parents' bookshelf in their living room. Things like this hold stories that last generations.

Day 23, June 18, 2007

This weeks' theme is "half". My spontaneity sucks sometimes.

Day 22, June 17, 2007

We spent Father's Day at my parents' house where I took a few minutes to take photos of various things around their home.

Day 21, June 16, 2007

I was simply trying to get a photo of Kathryn and daddy sharing household duties and was initially disappointed by this, but actually, I like the fact that it shows action and shows really HOW much she tries to be like her daddy sometimes.

Day 20, June 15, 2007

Galen: An outside cat Wanna-be.

Day 19, June 14, 2007

Happy Flag Day.

Day 18, June 13, 2007

One hundred eleven years.. That's how long ago this Cinderella shoe was purchased for my great-grandmother's fifth birthday. It's now basically an heirloom in my family. I refuse to have it appraised.

Day 17, June 12, 2007

... And it all comes tumbling down.

This week's theme is "Vintage". Though most of the country finds this a familiar symbol of a form of commercialism in America it's now considered old or even obsolete by some. At work, we no longer say "Cingular" as I now work for AT&T. Soon, the 8-foot sign above the front door at work will be removed to be replaced by a large, blue sphere. Hence, why these photos would be considered "vintage".

Speaking of work, tonight, I jumped the fence in our backyard again to talk to Deb (Deb lives right behind us. Her back fence is falling down and there's really no jumping to be done, just "stepping over". Deb is a manager at my work). On my way back, I saw that our rose had bloomed more and I took a photo. I was impressed once I pulled it up in editor to see the extreme detail I got in the original photo. I photoshopped it for the purpose of drawing the eye and just for fun.

Day 16, June 11, 2007

I see this automobile every day at work. It's held together by bungee cords. The battery is attached to the bed of the truck, yet, its age intrugues me.

Day 15, June 10, 2007

We decided to have a family outing today at Petit Jean State Park near Morrilton, AR . Unfortunately, storms were rolling in as we got there, but it still made for a good time. George and I want to go back sans Kathryn to do the hiking trails when we're not dodging lightning bolts.

Day 14, June 9, 2007

My father told me it would most likely take a year for our rose bushes to bud again after we relocated them last month to another part of our yard. Ha!

Friday, June 8, 2007

Day 13, June 8, 2007

The doctor says they're bug bites. Apparently she's getting them on the playground at school. No more playing in the tall grass of that side of the yard! It DID send a panic through our house though!

Day 12, June 7, 2007

Today was Kathryn's last day of Gym for the semester. She got a medal for her accomplishments. I didn't even think of taking our camera or video camera. My cell phone was all I had. This is the only one she cooperated for.

Day 11, June 6, 2007

So, we found this little guy on top of our stove. We found him rather intriguing as he just sat quietly on this stick, grooming itself. I typically hate bugs, but for some reason, he was interesting. George let him roam free back out on a tree. It wasn't until later I found out he was an Assassin Bug. Crap.

Day 10, June 5, 2007

George and I recently went on a walk on the Big Dam Bridge connecting North Little Rock and Little Rock over the Arkansas river. Since the theme is "Night" this week, I thought I'd share these.

Monday, June 4, 2007

Day 9, June 4, 2007

In total honesty, this is the ONLY type of picture I've had the energy to take today. I'm selling all of Kathryn's winter/fall clothes so that I can start working for Pampered Chef. Funny how it works, sell something to buy something so you can sell something to make money.

Sunday, June 3, 2007

Day 8, June 3, 2007

Kaci got her new Backyardigans video! Going shopping is such hard work!

We were invited to a "Family and Friends" night at a local sports/outdoors retailer that George applied to recently. Though they turned him down for a management position a couple of months ago, he's apparently at the top of their list for hire in the event a current manager resigns or falls through.

Day 7, June 2, 2007

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

Friday, June 1, 2007

Day 6, June 1, 2007

There's not a lot you can say or do to make you think of things that happened to me today. My daughter, husband and I take frequent walks around the neighborhood. There's this cat that we always stop and let my daughter pet. Such a sweet little girl, that kitty.
On my way home from work yesterday, I found her on the side of the road. She'd been hit some hours before. Our walk for the afternoon was cancelled as I didn't want Kathryn to find the kitty. I attempted to knock on the neighbor's door to alert them, but there was no answer.
I had no choice but to call Animal Control today to pick her up.
When I got home from running errands, I got a phone call from a friend of mine at work. She delivered even worse news to me. The daughter and girlfriend of a coworker of mine died mysteriously on Monday morning. They suspect the girlfriend had a seizure and fell on top of her two-month-old daughter. My coworker is devastated.
With all this in mind, the only thing I could do was take a picture of my neigbor's rose, thinking of the sadness I felt all day.

Day 5, May 31, 2007

Perspective... from above... driving home from work on my "friday". The weekend has arrived!

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Day 4, May 30, 2007

I work in Cubeville for a major cellular company. For my photos for today, I took random photos at my desk with my camera phone.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Day 3, May 29, 2007

When I moved to Little Rock 2 years ago, I was amazed to learn that Little Rock proper has hills and a mountain. Now, it's just part of the scenery and is what I see off the balcony at work every day.

Day 2, May 28, 2007

Day 1, May 27, 2007

I'm at the end of a week (weeks and themes change on Mondays), so I picked 2 recent themes that I knew I could play with and acted upon them. I picked water and spring and found things around our home that reflected both.

I've decided to call this last one "Nirvana", thanks to my husband's suggestion. We hung this hummingbird feeder up a couple weeks ago and we think that we didn't receive any feathered customers due to it being obscured by the oak leaves. Upon inspection of the feeder, I did see that there were several dozen (if not hundred) temporarily euphoric ants floating around. Just for those brief moments I'm sure they thought they were in heaven...

Why 365

I've been contemplating the notion of starting a 365 blog for quite some time. I've just never gotten around to it.

I started by trying to take daily pictures of my daughter and blogging about her, but that failed miserably. I mean, there's only so much photography you can do of just your child before you start taking the same photo over again!

People I guess were kind of surprised that I hadn't started one yet. Afterall, I'm a recovering 'professional' photographer. I have a degree in Journalism. I studied photography in High School. I still love doing it and people compliment me on my photos all the time.

Here's the part that will MOST surprise people. All of my photos are NOT done with a professional-scale camera. I don't own one (though I'll accept donations!). All my photos are (and will be) done with either my Cybershot 2Mp camera OR my 2Mp Samsung Sync camera phone. Oddly, they both seem to take rather decent photos.

Most of what makes a good photo is not the camera, really, but what the photographer creates and sees himself (or herself in this case) when taking the photo. Not every photo I take is good. I keep and display maybe 10% of what I take. The rest immediately get the big ole' "DELETE".

So, pray I can fill up 365 days of photos of random crap in my life :) I think I got a decent start today.
